What led you to realize that you wanted to do this type of work? Upon moving to the area, God closed any job openings in Design and photography in the area and lead me to research and develop a Christian Publication utilizing my talents and past experience at other newspapers.
Did you have any heroes or mentors in your industry that you admired? I worked for 2 other newspapers and learned the skills from coworkers and superiors. I also learned from others how not to run a business and applied this to my publication.
What type of education or training was required to land your job? I graduated college with a Graphic Design and Biblical Studies degree which helped me but I feel that the biggest prerequisite was God calling me to start the paper.
What do you love most about your job? Supporting, partnering with and building relationships with local ministries and Christian businesspersons.
What one part of your job do you wish you could hire someone else to do? Sales. God has blessed my efforts with sales but to find someone that shares my passion and is able to represent the publication would be a blessing.
What advice would you give to teenagers wanting to get into your field of work? You are only limited by your vision and willingness to work hard. With God’s blessing you can achieve your dreams, even if you do not feel qualified or able to do it.
How does your job allow you to use your God-given gifts? I am in a position to give voice to the ministries and Christian Businesses in the area and introduce them to the Christian community. My prayer is for more unity in the Body of Christ and my profession allows me to contribute to this.
Do you have any hobbies or off-hours pursuits that teenagers would find of interest? I love photography. I have done wedding, portraiture, and landscape photography. Living in Arizona for 2 years, I was able to photograph Arches Nat’l Park, Zion Nat’l Park, and several other God-breathed landscapes including Europe.
