Why Were You Born?

Why Were You Born?

That probably seems like a pretty strange question for me to be asking you. Why were

you born? Have you ever wondered? Do you ever think about it at all?

The reason I ask you this question is because in the Book of Ephesians, there is this verse that we cannot ignore if we want to fulfill our purpose.

For we are God’s handiwork,

created in Christ Jesus to do good works,

which, God prepared in advance

for us to do.

(Ephesians 2:10 NIV)

See the dilemma? You and me were created by God to accomplish a specific task, before we were ever even born. I know, mind blown, right?

The creator of the entire universe, knit you together in your mother’s womb with unique talents and gifts to use for his purposes. He has specific plans for you and you alone that He wants you to fulfill. Did you know this? Are you freaked out right about now?

Here you were just living your life, relaxing, making plans for your future and then BOOM! I go and drop this on you. You are welcome. No, no it was my pleasure. What are friends for right? That’s me, a really, really like totally awesome friend.

Now that you know

What are you going to do about it. What should you do about it? What can you do about it? What’s with all the questions?

At the top of the ‘What can I do’ agenda is, Prayer. You need to be asking God what He wants you to do. And then ask him to help you get it done.

That’s one prayer that I personally guarantee He will answer. How can I be so sure? Check out these promises from God:

This is the confidence we have in approaching God:

That if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

And if we know that he hears us--

whatever we ask--we know

that we have what we asked of him.

(1 John 5:14-15)

Did you see that? If we ask anything according to his will, he gives it to us. So check this out: God created you for a specific purpose and his will is for you to know what that purpose is right? So if you ask God to show you the reason you were born, ain’t you praying according to his will?

See how 2+2=4? It’s that easy. Just ask. This ain’t rocket science. Here’s another promise from Jesus himself:

“If you remain in me and my words remain in you,

ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”

(John 15:7 NIV)

The purpose of life is to have a life of purpose. God created you to have purpose. It’s your responsibility to ask God what he created you to do and then it’s your job to get to it. But here’s the great news, you won’t be doing it alone. He is going to prepare the way for you. He will give you the tools you need. Check this out:

For it is God who works in you to will and to act

in order to fulfill his good purpose.

(Philippians 2:13 NIV)

I mean seriously, does it get any better than that? God creates you for a specific purpose, you ask what your purpose is, he tells you, then he works in you to complete that purpose.

There is really no reason why you cannot fulfill your purpose. I mean, hello, God, yes the God of all creation is helping you. Do you really have a good excuse for why you are not doing what you were created to do?

I didn’t think so. Why are you still sitting there reading this? I’m done. It’s over. Go. I said go and fulfill your purpose.

We’re done here

But you’re just getting started
