Review: "G" - iPhone/iPod Touch

I am very blessed to receive so much wonderful news so often. I was really excited to hear G was being released on the PC. This game was first released as an Iphone app. Family Friendly Gaming has not yet started reviewing that machine. So finding out Soma Games ported it to the Personal Computer was really cool news. Players shoot missiles out into space. The goal is to ping the targets. This is done by shooting them close enough to the targets and hitting a button at the right time. Sounds easy huh? Well certain objects exert gravity, and can really change the trajectory of the missiles.

The visuals in G are very beautiful. I enjoyed looking around the various screens. This game brings a celestial awe. The missiles that are launched can crash into objects, and they explode. That is the most violent G gets. I expected a lot worse when I saw the screen shots, and noticed missiles are being shot from a ship. Soma Games kept the graphics family friendly in G. Which is something we appreciate here at Family Friendly Gaming.

I have to admit I was not expecting much from the audio department of G. After all this is a port from the Iphone. The voice acting is way better than I expected. Emotion is relayed quite nicely in G. The blast sounds from the missiles fits the theme of this game nicely. The ping made me think of submarines, and it fit the expanses of space.

G starts out pretty easy, but gets more difficult as time goes on. I like how you can post your high scores for others to see. That can be a very humbling experience for those of us with a few problems with physics. Many players will try and complete the tasks with just one missile. This is possible, and something that players will replay for.

I like how easy the controls are in G. There is a bit of guess work while playing this game. I would have liked some more guides before I actually launched a missile. Hints on tough spots would have been nice too. Maybe three hints per ten levels or something. I had fun playing this game, and marvel at the creativity that created G.

G is one of those fun video games that can teach gamers a few things along the way. I would love to see a sequel to this game in the near future. It was my joy to be able to play and review G. This game is safe for the entire family. The only downside to this game is it can become addicting in certain levels.
