War brings up so many memories for so many people - all over the world. Hearts of Iron III takes us into the World War II era, and lets us take control of a nation. We then get to live out those years. We can increase production, attack our foes, or grind them down with our defenses. The choices are all yours.
Choices and decisions is what Hearts of Iron III is all about. There is so much content in this real time strategy game that it can be exhausting to learn it all. In fact you may need a PhD in micro management just to get through this PC game. Hearts of Iron III is not an easy game to learn either.
Expect to spend numerous hours learning how to play Hearts of Iron III. Test out different scenarios to learn what works best. When you get done there are expansion packs to purchase and explore. Hearts of Iron III Their Finest Hour is the latest one (editor at the time this review was written).
We are dealing with war so expect some violent images. Hearts of Iron III could have been a lot worse in that department. Many of the graphics are small, especially for those of us with older eyeballs. The tones can be on the depressing side. The music is fantastic and brought so many wonderful memories.
Hearts of Iron III feels like a learning experience to me. If you love outsmarting the Nazis then Hearts of Iron III may be for you. If you like quick action, then you might want to look somewhere else. I am thankful that I was able to play and review Hearts of Iron III on the PC.
