Beatshapers continues to impress us here at Family Friendly Gaming. I was cynical when they told me BreakQuest Extra Evolution was the next step in brick breaking games. Ya'll know how I feel about evolution. I do not believe in it, and find it to be highly divisive and controversial. This game is more of a complete make over and revolution of brick breaking games.
First thing ya'll need to know about BreakQuest Extra Evolution is you will rarely find bricks. The first level is flowers. We have to knock off the pedals, and then the main part to complete the level. This may sound strange at first, but it allowed the developer some major freedom in level design.
Level design is what helps BreakQuest Extra Evolution stand out. Our paddle is a half circle up, but there are power ups that can invert it so it dips inwards. We can launch items like rockets, or shoot guns to take out the objects in BreakQuest Extra Evolution. I use that word carefully because there are a variety of objects in BreakQuest Extra Evolution.
The one downside to all of the creativity in BreakQuest Extra Evolution is it can be difficult to know where the objects are. I would throw the ball out there trying to figure out what was breakable, and what had to stay. Strategy is also required in certain levels. As multiple switches have to be turned on to remove an object.
The music fits the themes of the levels. They are just as quirky as the graphics. Which are very bright and colorful. BreakQuest Extra Evolution is a game that screams: "LOOK AT ME!" I am glad we were provided a download code for this review, and checked this game out.
BreakQuest Extra Evolution is one of the most unique and fascinating games I have played all year long. Sony has a wonderful partnership going with Beatshapers. I am sure Nintendo and Microsoft are jealous. Because I can think of nothing like this on the other systems.
