Tebowing?? On Tebowmania

PDF | Print | E-mail

I was actually sittin' in Denny's on the laptop, wi-fied in, thinking of something to write about. Suddenly, the Spirit drop into my mind, Tim Tebow.

So here I am, tebowing, like the rest of humanity. He's the most popular man on the planet, or at least it seems. The epitome of infamy, the neo-muhammad ali, if you will. Except He claims Christ, of course.

So, exactly who is Tim Tebow? Well....Hmph...Lets see...

'Pending on who your listening to, the answer will vary. To Bill Maher, he's an idiot. To some pastors and bishops I wont name he's a Christian celeb, exploiting God for self gain. Moreover, to Terrell Suggs, linebacker for NFL's Baltimore Ravens, he's an overrated, white quarterback who plays more like a poor-man's version of Micheal Vick. One who has not earned what Vick, and even others have at that professional level. He could, and would possibly even argue that Tebow receives as much, if not more attention that his more accomplished contemporaries at the quarterback position, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Payton Manning, all of whom have kissed the famed Vince Lombardi Trophy and own super bowl rings.

In the opinion of Rob Parker, sports columnist for ESPN NewYork.com, Tebow is resented because he is lauded for what African-American quarterbacks historically have been marginalized for. For him, Tebow represents the continuation of years of discrimination aimed at African-American quarterbacks and a legacy of double standards that have existed for generations in American culture as it pertains to race. The fact that Tebow's passing ability is suspect at best further validates his claims. From that perspective, maybe he is overrated.

To thousands of people all over the World, the small and great, Tim Tebow is gay. Or Strange. Or weird. Or maybe too much for the modern pysche, like an oxymoron. A humble solider on the gridiron. A competitive warrior with hometraining. A rich man who gives to the poor. A holy celeb. The humpback through the eye of the needle. Or, quite frankly, in the immortal tone of one Stephen A. Smith, more importantly, maybe Tebow is truly saved, sanctified, and filled with the Spirit of God.

The Word of God states in 1 Corinthians 1:18 that "The Word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God". While men talk, it is evident that the "power" of God, the anointing of God, rest heavily upon Tim's life. Move over Crae, he is truly one-one-sixx wit it!

Bold enough to proclaim it in a world of sharks and snakes, but wise and humble enough to save lives through his actions. The Lord obviously knows more than any of us mortal beings, and has chosen to exalt Tebow and interject His name into modern discourse.

Jesus sums up this premise simply by saying, "He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth Me: and he that loveth Me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest Myself to him," John 14:21. Regardless of his race, his abilities, and his naysayers, the love of God is clearly made seen in Tebow's life, which has resulted in unmerited favor in grace in the eyes of both God and man.

FYI: Be careful whose truth you embrace.

Once again peace and luv, da homey Konviction www.triumfantmuzik.com

Tebow, to me, is a hero on many levels. Regardless of what other sports commentators say about him, he's so committed to God and won't sway for them to give them what they want. Which is hard to find nowadays. I think it's ridiculous that so many quarterbacks (or just athletes, and just celebrities in general) can live a terrible life that makes us cringe and it's no big deal. But Tim Tebow lives a relatively good life and so all of a sudden, he's a target for smear articles. Because Tebow is "good", he's weird. I think people are so uncomfortable with him setting a high standard. I have a lot of respect for Tebow and I think he's a good role model (great role model) for boys especially because he shows them that you can be good at sports and good in life.
