I remember lying in bed as a boy wondering about how God could have always existed. Maybe like me you have wondered, “If God made the world, then where did God come from?” This is actually a question that has been raised not only by kids, but also by some great philosophers and scientists. In his bestseller, A Brief History of Time, physicist Stephen Hawking asks the question about what started the universe, “Or does it need a creator, and if so, does he have any other effect on the universe? And who created him?”1

"Secret Confessions of a Super Nerd"

EPISODE 1

“From Geek to Freak”

By Torry Martin

In high school I was known as the nerdy red-headed chubby guy who always read comic books on the school bus. Needless to say, I was never in the “it-must-be- so- cool-to-be-you” clique. In fact I wasn’t in any clique at all. Most of my peers didn’t even know my name much less what my face looked like as I usually had it hidden behind the latest issue of “Superman,” “Batman,” or “The New Teen Titans”.

Having just purchased a new home I was anxious to start redecorating and since the room that I was using as an office was currently a Pepto Bismal pink, I decided that it would be a great place to start. Although I did take comfort in knowing that if I kept the room the Pepto Bismal color that anytime I was feeling nauseous I could just lick the walls. Not being naturally prone to wall licking though, I knew the pink had to go. It was like my Mom always said, “If you know you aren’t going to use something then you need to get rid of it.” Which explains why my new house doesn’t have a mop, broom or vacuum cleaner.

Tennessee comedian Torry Martin is slated to write a new column for Clash Entertainment. We asked Torry to introduce himself to Clash Entertainment readers, but unfortunately he is very reluctant to talk about himself. So we turned to Jack Bauer, interrogator extraordinaire and hero of the hit television show, 24, to make Torry talk. (Since 24 has gone off the air, Jack has been freelancing to make ends meet.) Here is a transcript of that interrogation.

The following takes place between 7:00 a.m. and 7:24 a.m.

I was very interested in this documentary for a couple of reasons: 1. I love dinosaurs and dragons, and have always wondered if they weren't one and the same. 2. I'm developing a graphic novel project that delves into this very subject, so this was partly for research and partly for fun.

40 Days with Jesus: Preparations

A United Methodist pastor in a small Kansas town decided to carry a cardboard cutout of Jesus with him every day for the 40 days of Lent. This series will document some of their adventures.

By Vicky Miller

Several months ago my husband, Jeff, and I saw a news story about a young Florida woman who started carrying a cardboard cutout of her boyfriend––who was serving in Iraq––wherever she went. This woman had pictures taken of her escapades with the cardboard double and mailed them to her boyfriend. This story got my pastor husband’s wheels turning. “What if I got a cardboard Jesus and started carrying him around?” he mused. Throughout the next several months, he toyed with this idea, and as Lent approached he began talking more seriously about it.

A United Methodist pastor in a small Kansas town decided to carry a cardboard cutout of Jesus with him every day for the 40 days of Lent. This series will document some of their adventures. We have affectionately taken to calling the cutout, "CJ" which stands for "Cardboard Jesus."

Since the six Sundays in Lent are not counted among the forty days, they will actually be spending forty-six days together.

Jeff and Cardboard Jesus went to a birthday party tonight. Our friend Tess turned thirty-nine, and her husband and two young sons planned a surprise party for her. Jeff and I were walking by their house last night and the boys, who were out playing with their new basketball goal, excitedly ran over to meet us and invite us to the party.
